Crosman AIR 17

The Crosman AIR 17 is a single stroke pneumatic made to shoot pellets or BBs. It was manufactured from 1985 to 1990. Being a single stroke it is pretty low velocity at 450 fps for BBs and 400 fps for pellets. The low velocity along with a smooth bore barrel make this air gun a plinker.
I first saw the Crosman AIR 17 in online auctions and thought it was an interesting air gun. Crosman didn't make many Single Stroke Pneumatic air rifles. It is a "replica" of the AR-15 / M-16 even though it is mostly plastic it's not a bad replica. I like the looks of it....

The magazine is detachable and can be used to store extra pellet clips.

There is also a "secret" compartment in the stock. Fun stuff....

The pellet clip holds 4 pellets and also has a single shot tray built into it. The later style 5 shot pellet clips that fit the  Model 760 also fit this air gun.

The rear sight is a peep and the front sight is a post.

I shot a few groups using pellets, and they were about what I was expecting at around 1 1/2 inches at 10 yards. Not a target or hunting rifle by any means, but it wasn't meant to be either of those. It's a fun Plinker that looks like an M16.

This will be one of the few rifles I haven't torn apart. I couldn't find a reason to tear into this one....
Thanks for reading!

  1. Thank you for the information regarding the Model 760 pellet clip fitting the AIR 17. I assumed that the pellet clips would be long gone and wasn't sure any others would fit. Awesome information!

  8. I still got mine and it works great! I went looking for a scope for it and they used to make them but now I can't find one anywhere. They are all dovetail mount for more current models. The old one mounted right onto the carry handle of the Air 17. The only example I could find is one that sold on gunauction dot com in 2004 for $15. I will check back here in case anybody can tell me where to find one. On the other hand, if any of YOU can find it, you'll probably want it for yourself - haha.

  9. Hello, I have an A.I.R. 17 that I bought new at a big box store. Unfortunately over the years I lost the flash suppressor. I would like to model and 3D print a replacement. Would you mind working with me on that? It would just involve taking some photographs of yours, and taking a few measurements. Thanks, Steve info@gianttire.info

    1. If I still had it I would be more than happy to help. I sold it shortly after posting this blog. Maybe hit up some of the air gun forums and see if someone can help you out.

    2. I bought replacement flash suppressor, like $10 for mine through JGairguns you should be able to find on line. No magazines found there but they do have some parts. Minimum order like $15. Exploded view of the rifle on the website also. Hope this helps.

    1. I'm surprised people still find this blog. I haven't posted for several years, but every few months someone posts a comment. Good luck with your sale. I used Gunbroker to sell my air gun projects when I was done with them.
